Upscale Tools
Magnific V2 is a creative upscaler — it doesn't just enlarge an image, it reimagines and embellishes details at higher resolution. Where Topaz faithfully preserves what was in the original image, Magnific V2 actively adds texture, depth, and richness that go beyond what the source contained. Fabric gains visible thread patterns, skin shows pore detail, landscapes acquire additional foliage and atmospheric depth. This makes it the superior choice for AI-generated art, illustrations, and creative images where enhanced visual richness improves the result.
Before using Magnific V2, understand the fundamental trade-off: it will alter your image. Magnific adds detail that wasn't in the original — a smooth wall might gain subtle brick texture, a blurry tree line might acquire individual leaf detail. For AI art, fantasy illustrations, concept art, and creative photography, this enhancement is a feature. For product photos, portraits where facial accuracy matters, or any image that needs to look exactly like the original at higher resolution, use Topaz instead.
Add a Tool node and select "Magnific Image Upscale V2." Connect your Image node to the input. Like Topaz, Magnific V2 has no configurable parameters in the UI — the model automatically determines how to enhance the image based on its content analysis. The output is always a PNG at enhanced resolution. Scale range is 2x to 16x, with pricing tiered by output megapixels: 15 credits (small), 30 credits (medium), 180 credits (large). The cost scales with output size, not input size.
The strongest workflow for Magnific V2: generate an image with Midjourney v7 (which produces beautiful but relatively low-resolution output), then pass it through Magnific V2. Midjourney's artistic interpretation + Magnific's creative upscaling compound each other — the result has both Midjourney's aesthetic quality and high-resolution detail that neither model produces alone. For FLUX.2 outputs, Magnific adds the artistic embellishment that FLUX.2's precise but sometimes "clean" output lacks.
For important images, run both upscalers on the same source and compare side by side on the canvas. This takes two Tool nodes connected to the same Image node. The comparison is often revealing: Topaz preserves the original perfectly but may look "flat" at higher resolution, while Magnific adds richness but may alter specific details. Many professional workflows use Topaz for the hero product shot and Magnific for the lifestyle/artistic variant of the same image.
Cost tiers by output megapixels: 15 credits (small), 30 credits (medium), 180 credits (large). The 2x-16x scale range means even small source images can produce very large outputs — check the expected credit cost before generating.
Magnific V2 excels on: fantasy art, sci-fi scenes, landscape photography, textured illustrations, concept art. It struggles with: faces (may alter features), product photos (may add non-existent texture), and text (may distort characters).
Freepik also offers Magnific Creative Upscale (with prompt-guided style control) and Magnific Skin Enhancer (optimized for portrait skin detail). Consider these alternatives for specific use cases.
The Midjourney → Magnific pipeline is the strongest for portfolio-quality AI art. The two models complement each other: Midjourney for aesthetic composition, Magnific for resolution and texture depth.
Magnific V2 produces visually richer results than any standard upscaler — images gain texture, depth, and detail that go beyond the source. The fundamental trade-off: it will alter your image (adding detail that wasn't there), which is a feature for creative work but a liability for documentary photography. Use Topaz for faithful upscaling where accuracy matters, and Magnific V2 for creative enhancement where richness matters. Both output transparent PNG format.
